Whether performing
solo shows, opening for other larger acts, or performing with other
musicians, guitarist/vocalist Brian
Allen always trys to accomplish two things, “Have fun, and make
sure your crowd has fun. Everything else will fall into place.”,
he says. These are principals Allen has come to believe in based on
almost fourteen years of performing. He is now applying this knowledge
to solo acoustic shows. “It’s
something that feels very natural to me,”says Allen. “I really
like how personable it is.”
Allen, originally an Albia Iowa native,
started performing when he was 16. He got his start playing lead guitar
for the southern Iowa based
pop rock group Breezeway. While with Breezeway, he had the opportunity
to play various venues across the state including multiple stages at
the Iowa
State Fair,
various summer festivals, and several fundraisers for state politicians.
Breezeway also released an independent album in 1997 titled “Passing
Through” which
received moderate air play from various southern Iowa radio stations.
Allen spent several years teamed up with singer/songwriter
Josh Davis playing acoustic duo shows, Over
a 4 year peroid, Davis and Allen played over 150 shows together all across
the state of Iowa including bars, colleges, festivals, and concerts.
They opened for several well know groups including The Nadas, Towncrier,
The Tyler Tompson Band, and Dazy Head Mazy. One of the more notable shows
was an opening act appearance for country superstar Dwight Yoakum at
the Hoyt Sherman Theater in Des Moines.
